Yaupon Place is located on land traditionally inhabited by both Algonquian and Siouan speaking peoples - which includes more tribes and peoples than can be counted prior to colonization. The yaupon plant (harvested for tea) is only known thanks to the many Indigenous people of North America specifically in this region and south. Yaupon Place is pursuing ways to welcome Indigenous peoples back into relationship with this land and the community as a priority.
